Rent a car in Takachiho

I am visiting Takachiho with public bus from Nobeoka and stay there for 2 nights.
I would like to visit also Mt Aso.
1. Is it possible to rent a car for half a day for a short visit at Mt Aso?
2. Can you point out agencies in Takachiho? Special tips on renting car there?
3. Does 1-2 hours on Mt Aso site is enough?
4. Is there is any other solution beside rent a car for one day to visit Mt Aso from Takachiho?
Maybe tours? or public-bus? I assume taxi cost a loooot.

The sites around Takachiho are spread out over a reasonably big distance with limited public transport. Hiring a car for Takachiho as well will also be helpful....

Depending on where you are coming from. I would hire the cat a Beppu, Oita, Nobeoka or Miyazaki.
