Hello! My friends and I are really looking for help for this leg of our trip and thought you guys might be able to help us with routes, or tell us if we're crazy, or if we should allocate more time to one place or the other.
Basically here's our rough idea to start in Shikoku:
Day 1, we arrive in Shikoku via Okayama, pick up rental car and travel to Iya area, spend night there
Day 2, we move on to Kochi, drive through, check out Ryuga Cave and settle in Shimanto for the night, see fire fishing.
Day 3, wake early to surf in area, explore then drive to Uwajima, spend the night here.
Day 4, Not sure, maybe explore area before jumping on ferry to Kyushu (beppu) (overnight)
Here's the rough for Kyushu (2 options):
Day 1, we leave early in the morning from Beppu via rental car, check out Yufuin or Kurokawa Onsen area, then head to Mt Aso, overnight in Aso area.
Day 2, check out Takachiho Gorge, head through Miyazaki and overnight there.
Day 3, Kirishima and onto Kagoshima, overnight in Satsuma peninsula
Day 4, Drive to Kagoshima city, Sakurajima and overnight here (we head to Yakushima for 3 days following this)
Option 2:
Day 1, Leave Beppu, head to Kurokawa or Yufuin Onsen, check out Mt Aso and overnight in Aso area
Day 2, Drive 3 hrs to Nagasaki through Kumamoto and Saga, spend day in Nagasaki, overnight there
Day 3, Head down through Shimoshima and Nagashima Islands, Settle in Satsuma Peninsula Area
Day 4, Check out Satsuma area, then head to Kagoshima City where we'll be taking the jetfoil to Yakushima the following morning
Basically, we've refined our itinerary to a point here, and we're really looking for help from you experts on how the itinerary looks, if we should shuffle days (we have some wiggle room, 1 or 2 days), or skip certain activities. Should we focus on either shikoku or Kyushu rather than both? Is there anything bad about our routes of travel/ should we focus on different routes? We're accustomed to pretty speedy itineraries too.
Thanks so much for your help, this has been an undertaking haha. Usuallly with the shinkansen its easier to plan, but self drive is very difficult without knowing the area. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!
