Hi all!
Second trip in Japan. After a week in Fukuoka and heading to Kyoto what itinerary would you suggest? Hiroshima/Miyajima/Osaka already seen. Travelling with a 8 years old we'd prefer two/three nights stay. Any suggestion highly appreciated.
Thanks!!

So many places. It depends on your and your child's interests. Some of the places I enjoyed (from west to east): 1. Tsuwano and Hagi area: You can ride steam locomotive to Tsuwano, if that sort of thing interests you. 2. Kurashiki and Okayama area: Historic district of Kurashiki and Okayama castle. 3. Kagawa Prefecture: If you like udon noodle, you can cross the bridge from Okayama to visit Kagawa, the "udon prefecture." 4. Himeji and Kobe area: Himeji for the castle and temples atop Mt Shosha. Kobe, a port city with lots of foreign influences, and can visit Arima Onsen. 5. Nara. It's south of Kyoto, but worth a visit if you have never been there. Besides the temples and shrines, I really enjoy interacting with the deers. Kids will surely love it.
Read details from the destinations guide of this web site. Have fun!

First it would sure help if you gave more info on: your interests where you want to end up how you want to travel when you travel your travel paceYou mentioned staying a week in Fukuoka - are you traveling around Kyushu during that time? Fukuoka has a number of sights to see (for those who know about them) and worth some of your attention. http://bit.ly/1KAm8cUhttp://www.thejapanfaq.com/fukpic.htmlBut after a day or two, branching out to other places like Nagasaki, Kurokawa, Aso, Kagoshima, Beppu/Yufuin etc would be great too. If you rent a car, there are a ton of great places more you can see. Otherwise you might look at a JR Kyushu Rail Pass or Sun Q Bus Pass. https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2361_05.htmlhttps://www.sunqpass.jp/english/index.shtmlTravel close to the Sanyo Shinkansen line through Yamaguchi, Hiroshima and Okayama can be very fast, but if you venture into Shikoku or the San-in area, things can get very slow and inconvenient if you don't drive. There are tons of great places to see in the Chugoku region as well as in Shikoku, but you need to narrow things down more.

Thanks for the replies. Yes youfre right I was too vague. Wefll spend a week in Fukuoka visiting the area, then we have to decide if head to Beppu or Chugoku. Only travel by train/bus so need to be convenient. Thanks for the good suggestions Thaiti, think wefll stick to this except Nara, wefve been there last year. Instead Ifd like to try the onsen experience but quite afraid by the heat, wefll travel on the first decade of August.
