New US iPhone ok for Japan?

According to Apple, the iPhone 8 Plus model numbers that work in the US are... Model A1897 Model A1864 (GSM) Model A1864 (CDMA) The iPhone 8 Plus model number that works in Japan is... Model A1898 Does that mean the iPhone 8 Plus model numbers from the US will not work in Japan? Three years ago I went to Japan with an unlocked iPhone 6 from Apple. I specifically told the sales clerk at Apple I needed the model number that works in Japan (A1586). He gave me that model number. When I went to Japan, Docomo gave me a SIM card and a contract. I want to do the same with my new unlocked iPhone 8 Plus, but the model number is NOT the one that works in Japan (Model A1898). Will it not work? https://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/#iphone-8-iphone-8-plus

I did that.
Apple lists different models for each country. As well as different bands.

whether it's a different model, the bands do overlap, check if the us model have the bands that the Japanese model have.
