Coin laundry in Fukuoka 2018/7/1 14:59
I want to stay at the Grand Hyatt Fukuoka for my trip but my issue is doing laundry. I've done it before in Tokyo business hotels as they have coin laundry machines. Would those kinds of hotels let a non guest use the wash machines? I could stay at a business hotel instead but I want the bigger room and comfort GH will have.

There is a coin laundry not too far from your hotel:

Himawari Coin Laundry
3 Chome-5-35 Sumiyoshi, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka-shi, Fukuoka-ken 812-0018, Japan

I donft think that business hotels would normally allow you to use their facilities.

Enjoy your trip to Japan!

At these dedicated laundry sites how much more difficult are they to use than the typical business hotel washers? I assume they have more options and modes. I know very little Japanese.

I have been to a dedicated coin laundry near Kobe. It was very clean and had newer machines. The washers were all front-loading type (business hotels all had top loading type) and detergent was automatically dispensed (included in the price of a wash) and there wasn't even a vending machine selling detergent. The menu options were simple but in Japanese. I just used the default setting. The dryers were simpler, just two heat settings and operates for a fixed time per coin (like 10 minutes per 100 Yen). Overall, I think it did a better job than machines offered at a typical business hotel.
Other coin laundries may not be as pleasant as the one I went.

Well, Japanese washing machines don't know hot water. They all just wash with cold water. So there isn't really a lot of wrong settings you could potentially choose. I would probably not try to wash wool (or silk), but everything else you can just drop in and get it started. Often laundries are well described. Either in Japanese only (you could use Google translate with the camera to translate single words) or maybe with some pictograms. It is also possible that there are other clients, so just ask them (in any kind of language, they will understand what you mean anyway, as it is pretty obvious) and you will be helped.

Japanese dryers don't seem to know hot air, either. Don't get me started on how long it takes to dry clothes there.

I suppose I could always ask another patron. Are the dedicated sites cheaper to use than the kinds business hotel offer?

I'm afraid I couldn't manage to find English info, but according to the following page from the hotel's official website, Grand Hyatt Fukuoka has a laundry facility within the hotel premises. Why not email the hotel for more details?

I saw on their site they do laundry but I believe it is done through them and they send it out somewhere and return to your room like room service. I'll email them and find out for sure but I'm most certain it's that way and not self service.

Re: Coin laundry in Fukuoka 2018/7/4 03:04
The cost depends on your load size. I usually do laundry every 5 days, but the machines at business hotels are little too small to handle them in one load so I end up splitting to 2 loads. Dedicated coin laundries have bigger machines, so I can do them in one load. The same goes for the dryer. So, for me overall, it's cheaper to do it at a dedicated coin laundry shop.

I contacted the hotel and the answer was strange. They don't have laundry facilities for self use but they directed me to a capsule hotel to use their laundry. Even included the costs and time.

Maybe it's like letting visitors use hotel pools. Either way, Hyatt can be responsible for leading their customers to use the capsule hotel laundry machine. I don't really find that so strange.
