Kyoto temples illumination in November 2018/9/3 02:08
Hello. I'm traveling to Kansai and Chugoku regions in Japan for the 2 first weeks in November. I heard that during this time (Koyo, fall colors), some temples will be open at night for the illumination viewing. I want to know if the information about "which temple", "when" and "hours" is already up, or if this information will only be available close to November only? And where I can get this information? Thank you very much.

Kind regards,
Catia.

Generally speaking the best autumn colors are in the second half of November - if you are there in the first half then you might find it disappointing.
As to which places and when, have a look at
https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3953.html
The dates are from last year - but this year should be very similar. Check back from time to time or look on the temple websites to see when they will make the dates.
Unless you seen it before, there are many other great places in Kansai and the Chugoku Region. Nara would be an excellent place to enjoy and the Todaiji Temple is one of the best in Japan.

Also in Kansai, Himeji Castle is one of the finest original surviving castles in the country, and the Kokoen Garden near it is no less beautiful.

Hiroshima is another definitely possibility - including Miyajima, Onomichi, Kure, and other sights.

You could also try to the San-in area, although getting around is a lot slower and inconvenient. Or even head over a bit to Shikoku and see Kagawa & Takamatsu - there are many good sights and not many tourists venture over there.

You can definitely see a lot of unforgettable places.
Good luck.

Thank you so much for your answer. I will check the temples websites.

Also, about the dates in November. I couldn't find cheap flights for the second half, and accomodation is more expensive during that time as well. I know that the fall colors won't be at their peak in the first half of November in Kyoto and Nara. But it's ok, because I'll probably see the peak colors in Mt Koya (visiting on November 10th) and Miyajima (visiting on November 12th). Also, I don't enjoy crowds, so I hope it will be more relaxing in Kyoto and Nara during that first half of November. Besides those places, I plan to visit Rural Kyoto (Arashiyama, Kibune and Kurama), Osaka and Hiroshima.

I really can't wait!!! I'm so excited!!!!
