Engineer visa query

Hello,
I have an engineer visa. I left Japan on the 1st May (due to an illness) and they gave me a reentry permit for 1 year. It's now September. Would I be allowed back in the country to work?
I rang up the Japanese embassy and they said themselves its no problem, but just wanted to make sure.
Thank you

As long as your status is not expired, yes, of course, that's what the re-entry permit is for.

No, it is not relevant. What immigration doesn't like is if you are in Japan and don't engage in the activity corresponding to your status. If you are not in Japan, they don't care (otherwise it wouldn't make sense to grant re-entry permits for more than three months).
