Oirase Mountain Stream from Aomori Station 2018/10/20 13:51
I was reading in the page:
https://www.tohokuandtokyo.org/spot_11/

that I need to ride a bus from Shin-Aomori station and get off at Yakeyama bus stop. Upon searching the bus details:
http://www.jrbustohoku.co.jp/route/detail/?RID=14&BID=476

I saw that this bus also departs from Aomori station and also stops at Yakeyama. Is this the same bus they are referring to? So I don't need to go to Shin-Aomori station anymore and I can just ride it at Aomori station (since that's where we will be staying)? I'm just making sure since a lot of the guides all mention ride the bus at Shin-Aomori but not Aomori. Also, will there be signs at Yakeyama bus stop with directions towards the stream? Do I need to make bus reservations in advance or can I just board with a JR pass since it's a JR bus? Thanks a lot!!

I have taken that bus from JR Aomori Station in the past. It is the only JR bus I know that goes to Towadako. I wasnft aware it started at Shin-Aomori. Perhaps it has since I went in 2013.

I also took the bus from JR Aomori Station, but it was back in '09 so...

From what I am seeing the bus starts in Aomori and then depending on the time of day stops at Shin-Aomori. I suspect the websites you see recommending using Shin-Aomori are assuming you are arriving in the Aomori environs via shinkansen vs. starting in Aomori itself. I know when I put Aomori in on this website, they mention taking the bus from Aomori: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3777.html?aFROM=3750_3776

I got off at Ishigedo and not Yakeyama when I did the hike. I remember from the bus exit it was very easy to find the path. I don't know about Yakeyama since I didn't use that stop.

Good luck!

Thanks for the information! Glad to know that it's the right bus. How far did you have to walk from Ishigedo?

Hi!

Do you mean from the bus stop to the start of the path or do you mean from Ishigedo to Nenokuchi?

From the bus stop to the start of the walking trail was a very short walk. I don't remember it being hard to find. I think there was some sort of nature center/info center near the stop as well.

The walk itself didn't seem that long or hard. I stopped for a lot of pictures though.

Bus stops are along the stream. They do not care the short walks. The estimates themselves do differ. This one gives 4.5 hours for all. Minutes and kilometers are at the bottom.

This shows Yakeyama at the bottom and Nenokuchi at the top.
