Any experience in buying camera in Tokyo? 2018/10/30 09:50
Hi

I'm keen to buy a camera (https://www.biccamera.com/bc/item/4449593/) in Tokyo, but I have no experience in that. I would like to ask if they offer a free camera bag, free SD card or any gifts when purchasing one? Any recommended place for buying camera apart from Bic Camera and Yodobashi?
Thank you.

This is a big box retailer and it's not something they do at these types of stores. They same is also true for Yodobashi Camera. You might get a discount for future purchases though...

Expect a Japan-only warranty card.

Free gifts and stuff is all depend on the offer sales at individual shops.
You need to be on the lookout for the sales promotion,
checkout their sales promotion leaflet or visit the store on weekends or special holidays.
Although not mentioned, sometimes you can ask whether they can give extra gifts.
Nothing to lose if you ask.

As mentioned, be careful of the warranty.
Also the language menu, as some camera maker do not have language change menu for Japan sold camera. Especially those from Sony and Panasonic.

Advantage buying from Bic Camera, tax free and a extra 7% on top, that's 8%+7% (search Facebook Bic Camera for the extra 7% discount coupon). These days camera comes with worldwide voltage 100V-250V, but take in to account that the language may be Japanese only, and majority won't have a international warranty.

I suggest you get the camera locally in your country.

Two things to consider is the following:

(1) Can you read Japanese? The reason I ask is many Japanese cameras only have Japanese menus and don't have the option for an English menu. This is just something to consider.

(2) Camera prices in Japan I find are normally more expensive than outside of Japan. This include cameras which are built in Japan. In general, tech is not that cheap here.....

I bought a Casio EX-Z1200 from an electronics store in Tokyo, as few years back, and I found an English manual for it online.
