7 days in Kii Peninsula in April

Hi. We're an older couple who have visited several times previously. In Late March/April after a visit to Kyushu , we plan to speed down to Wakayama and get a rental car to explore the area over 7 days. We are thinking to start maybe with a drive to Yoshino then drive down to Tanabe by a picturesque route if possible. We are not happy to attempt the hiking but would like to access parts that can be reached by car or a short walk. Also take the river cruise down Kumano gawa to Shingu and perhaps start our drive back towards Wakayama to return car then. So we are looking for great areas to see, like the famous temple Taishas , perhaps onsens and magical places, coast views etc. . Have been looking at Air BNB and found some nice comfortable accom. (with chairs!) but we would like to ask about the good places to stay a day or two - with good atmosphere, scenery , restaurants etc. along the way around the peninsula. Our budget is pretty modest though not hostels. Any help and suggestions would be welcome thank you.
