Oze Marshland and the walking plank 2018/11/10 19:31
Has anyone been to Oze Marshland near Nikko?

We want to do the walking trail there on the way to Tokyo from Takaragawa Onsen, but some online posts hinted that the condition of the walking planks have deteriorated to a point that they didn't feel safe walking on them?

But the photos and videos we've seen seem to show that the planks were okay?

Anyone's been there recently? And is it worth staying overnight there?

Oze is closed for hikers for the season I believe.
We've been there before (not recently), and the best season is in May - July or so.

In case you are thinking for next spring/summer, a day hike would limit you to starting off from Hatomachi-toge and returning to the same trailhead If you stay over at a hut in Ozegahara marshland, you could explore further.

We once did a bus tour that let us hike around Hatomachitoge and back, and in another year did a two-day trip, starting from Hatomachitoge trailhead, staying in a hut in Ozegahara Marshland and hiking toward east to Ozenuma Pond and leaving from Numayamatoge (see map), which we thoroughly enjoyed:

Yes, we are planning to be there around 22 or 23 May nxt year and not sure if an overnight stay at the hut or a nearby town would be better.

Is the 6-hour trail needs good stamina? The planks look pretty straight.
