Travel to Koyasan

We are planning to travel from Osaka to Koyasan in early December. I have just read that the cablecar up Mt Koya will be unavailable as it is being replaced and that buses will be used instead. Could you please advise how much time this will add to the trip? Wondering if the travel time makes a one night visit too difficult. Thank you.
