I'm a monbokagakusho student from Iran I have a finance back in Iran Since Iran doesn't recognize lesbian marriage or even LGBT rights, we are not legally married However we can get married in a third-party country (Can we get married in Japan?) Would my future wife be able to obtain dependent visa while I'm in Japan? Considering that our legal certification will be from another country with a short history? I'm seriously exhausted and can't focus on my srudies with my significant other thousands of miles away I'd appreciate your help

At the moment, the immigration bureau is granting visas to some legally married same-sex spouses, but they seem to be using other visa categories (e.g. designated activities) as a workaround while the legal situation is being sorted out. Note though that for the dependent visa (and probably for the workarounds), the primary visa holder should be earning enough income from a Japanese salary to support a second person, hence the name "dependent." (Also the whole process is reportedly time-consuming, and very much at the discretion of your immigration official.)
It might be worth consulting an immigration lawyer to talk about options.

Your partner could try to get her own visa. Eg a student visa or a work visa, IF she qualifies for one on her own.
But yes as PP said Japan only recognizes heterosexual marriage for dependent visa.

Well I think the more relevant point for the OP's question is that the Immigration Bureau does de facto recognize same-sex marriages from abroad for visa purposes, and they do actually make accommodations to grant visas for same-sex spouses in situations where they wouldn't grant them to a non-married partner. (It's just that they're technically not called dependent visas at the moment.)

No, you can't. the reason is that your country, Iran, does not recognize same-sex marriage. ( I don't think your marriage in a third country is valid in Iran.)

You have a finance - as you yourself state, you are not married. Obtaining a dependent visa would not happen - on what grounds could they issue one. If they did, then a dependent visa to a friend would be a bad precedent. Nothing stopping you from applying, or getting some legal advice (some immigration lawyers offer a first consultation for free. Very useful for answers I appreciate it I'm well aware of Iran problems with same sex couples (trust me!) But still we can get married in a third-party country hence get legal document of marriage but not from Iran And I've been reading about it As said above it seems that they grant visa on other grouds easier but they still don't grant it directly under the suppose name Thanks all if anything different comes up or a particular solution I'll be more than happy to here about it
