Walk on drift ice, Shiretoko or Abashiri

We'd like to do the walking in the drift ice tour. I read from Japan Guide and it's only listed the tour from Utoro town near Shiretoko offer this. Whilst the Aurora Sightseeing boat from Abashiri just seems to provide boat tour and not walking on the drift ice tour. Is this correct?
Also the walking in the drift ice, does it mean we'd be taken by boat offshore then walk in the drift ice OR we'd just be taken along the coast for walking the drift ice? Do the tour operator provide the special suit or we'd need to rent it?
