Karuizawa to Shigakogen

Hi all
Understand the route at Mt Shirae is closed due to volcanic activities. Does it mean that all vehicles cannot pass to Shigakogen from East ie Karuizawa ?
What is the alternative route if Im driving from the east?

You can still drive via Manza Onsen, the summit of Mount Shirane and Route 292. Only the section down to Kusatsu falls into the no-entry zone. Take a close look at the map here: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e7406.htmlNote, however, that Route 292 is closed until mid April due to winter. The next fastest way is via the expressway. Or if you prefer to avoid the expressway, the next best alternative is probably to drive via Sugadaira.
