Moving to Japan as an actor 2019/1/25 00:39
I am wanting to move to Japan to pursue a career in acting. I'm from the UK.
Do you know if an agency can provide visa sponsorship?
I have trained in drama school but not accredited.
I have completed film roles and short film roles.

Nice dream. You speak Japanese ?

Highly unlikely for an agency to sponsor someone from oversea, unless you are famous youtuber?
Most foreign's talents are scouted locally.

Good for you but don't think it will matter much.

I have completed film roles and short film roles.
Good for you. Do you have a portfolio or something to show to your future agency/employer.

Did you even try googling 'Foreign Talent Agency Japan' ?
Here's some to get the ball rolling.

being an author, model etc are go through Agents in Japan.
Most are working already for an agent and are asked to come to Japan for work.

Networking is important and you should try to build up your network and work hard to proof why you should be chosen among many other people.

As mentioned before if you want to be Author (I do not which one you want) you should speak Japanese unless you want to be a foreigner on the background.

I do not want to discourage you but you need to be realistic and try to meet the right people.
And work on your Japanese if you do not have the skill.

As a related question (borrowing from a random factoid I learned decades ago about the median actor incomes (members of the screen guild - at the time less than $2,000 per year), can you actually support yourself now, in your country, on your acting? If not, Japan immigration are hardly likely to allow someone without a track-record of being able to support themselves to come to Japan.

(current stats suggest 2/3rd of actors earn less than $1,000/year, and average might be $52,000 skewed by those earning $20 million+)

I want to apologise for my question layout.
It comes off like a teenager with absolutely no idea what he is doing.
I just wanted information in regards to it.

In Japan, actors need not acting skills - you just need the looks.
The same goes for singers.

There are few actors/singers that can act/sing, but they are exceptions.

@Arron - there are some weird requests for information that come up on this forum from time to time. The information you get is a bit mixed because often people are thinking about related issues (like I was - re income), and others have different experience living/working in Japan. Many people have dreams, but unfortunately, practicalities get in the way.

Do you know about the Working Holiday Visa? Might be an option in your case.
