Cancelled NHI but did not return NHI Card

Hi everyone,

Before returning to my country, I canceled my NHI and notified my ward that I will be leaving. They told me to keep my NHI card until my last day and gave me an envelope and told me to drop it off at a mailbox in Narita.

Now I'm back in my country and I realized I forgot to drop off my NHI card at the airport!! >< Will this affect my entry to Japan in the future?

Probably nothing will happen, but hey will you trust someone on the net?

Can't you just post it back from your home country?

But it'll cost you postage fee but at least you can sleep well after that.

It won't affect your future entry, but those city halls and offices, when the insurance is terminated (as against expired), they want to collect the cards just to ensure that the insured is not holding onto it (and possibly misuse it). So why not, post from your country with an air mail stamp for peace of mind?
