Boy's Name Meaning

I married to a japanese woman last year. I wanted to ask this to my wife, but I think it's a stupid question to ask to her haha. So I've been wondering if I can give my precious little boy name 'Shin' with kanji 神. Is it okay to name my boy with that kanji? I mean, is it common to give a child with that single kanji?
thank you!

A single kanji character is fine. Shin is fine. But 神 would be very unusual, because of its meaning. I love to know how your wife reacts to it.
Other kanji that also reads Shin includes: 真, 慎, 進, 伸, etc. If you must use 神, perhaps 神一 (Shin'ichi) or something like that might be more acceptable.

If you can't even talk with your wife abour your ideas for naming your child, that doesn't bode well for the future of this marriage...

re: Nah, man, we did a lot of stupid jokes together, but she's now 8 month pregnant, so I can't really playing around haha. I just want her to focus on the childbirth. But thanks for your reactions though. I appreciate that.

It is child birth. Not the end of the world. A child's name should be the discussion for the parents. No some internet strangers half way across the globe.

re: Damn, man. No need to be that cold. I'm about to be a father and this is my first time experiencing this heart pumping experience. And you don't get the question I asked. It's about the kanji for naming my child, not to lecture me about my marriage. God damn it.
I just talk to my wife about this, and we decided to name him Shinichi with kanji 神一. Thanks to the first comment!!

hakata14 is CLEARLY a clueless guy who doesn't have kids, because then he'd know a baby's name is ABSOLUTELY a discussion for internet strangers half way around the globe for a large amount of parents! Check out any pregnancy forum or name nerds on reddit... TONS of parents asking name advice!
@EarntheCreator, congrats on your upcoming baby, and I love Shin'ichi as a name! You can call him "Shin-chan" as a cute nickname :) I'm also glad your wife was onboard with it... I left my daughter's kanji name completely up to my husband!

Sorry to be so cold. haha
I do get it is and exciting yet scary time. Especially your first bub. After four children. I guess none of the above applies as those emotions aren't as hightened.
Hey! Enjoy your last few nights of good sleep.

I take it that it's a generation thing rather than a "having raised kids or not" thing. My thoughts go for Hakata and the other anonymous poster. It's just so unthinkable for our generation to discuss your babys' names on the World Wide Web. We didn't have them in the first place when we were parenting! But I guess that's how the younger generation express their excitement nowadays.
