Should I get a 7 days Japan Rail Pass? 2019/3/2 00:46
Hi,

I will be travelling to Japan this April. I would like to check if the 7 days Japan rail pass is better for my trip? I'm considering to buy the Hakone and mt fuji
Pass as well.

My itinerary is as below:
10th April: Tokyo
11th April: Hakone
12th April: Hakone to lake kawaguchi
13th April: lake kawaguchi to Shinjuku
14th April: Enoshima island and Kamakura day trip
15 April: Shinjuku to Matsumoto
16th April: alpine route and stay overnight at Toyama
17th - 20th April: Tokyo

Please kindly advise if the passes are recommend for my itinerary.

Thanks and regards,
Siew Chee

Your only long-distance trip is to Matsumoto, so I don't recommend buying the Japan Rail pass. Maybe you can buy the JR East Nagano-Niigata pass. You can check www.hyperdia.com for the price of a round trip to Matsumoto and check that against the 17,000yen the pass costs (outside Japan) to see if even that one is worth it. Your other trips can be done with special passes or just by buying individual tickets.

Shinjuku -> Matsumoto Yen 6,900
Toyama -> Shinjuku Yen 12,520

I assume you're only doing the Alpine Route one-way? I'm not sure that any of the JR Passes (other than the regular Pass) effectively cover that area.
