How to get to Takayama from Lake Yamanakako

What is the best way to get to Takayama from Lake Yamanakako? I have the JR pass so any route that can use it would be great.

Probably the fastest way is by bus:

which is not covered by the JR Pass and costs 5000 yen one way.

If you need to only use a JR Pass until you hit private lines close to Kawaguchiko and then get on a bus of Yamanakako, the only way to go is Takayama to Toyama (~11:00 am is the earliest you can leave by Hida) Toyama to Tokyo by shinkansen and then taking a train from there to Kawaguchiko. Thats going to run you a good 8 hours.

You could also do Takayama to Nagoya to Mishima to a bus to Kawaguchiko which if you take a 9:38 Hida will get you to Mishima at 13:55 and you can then take a bus from there to Kawaguchiko You could take the 14:10 and be at Yamanakako at 15:20. The bus will not be covered by your pass and will cost 1850 yen. This will take you just under 6 hours,

Oops sorry I thought you meant from Takayama to Yamanakako. The 5000 yen direct bus is still fastest, just reverse everything else.

You either need to go back to Tokyo, take the shinkansen to Toyama and catch a Hida down to Takayama which is still going to take you nearly 8 hours or take the bus to Mishima take the shinkansen from there to Nagoya and then from there a Hida to Takayama, which again has the out of pocket bus.
