Tsukiji market still holds the tuna auction? 2019/5/22 20:47
Hello,
I read on your website that the Tsukiji market in Tokyo has moved to Toyosu and that the tuna auction activity is now held there. My question is whether the old Tsukiji market still holds the fish auction, even if it is on a smaller scale, or whether on the contrary it no longer has any activity except the retail sale of fish. Thank you in advance for your answer.

Actually the old Tsukiji has all but vanished. I could see it from my office, and now they have already torn it down. So only the bars and restaurants remain in the old location.

Tsukiji outer market remains in business;
it has retail sales of seafood.

"The old Tsukiji market" (Tsukiji inner market) no longer exists.
The former site of Tsukiji inner market
is now undergoing the demolition works on the buildings.

The market businesses of Tsukiji inner market
were fully taken over by Toyosu Market in October 2018.
(Some traders did not join the new market.)
A tuna auction is basically a business trade, not a tourist show.
It seems that Toyosu Market is designed a little more friendly to general visitors.
