Train Trip from Osaka to Tokyo 2019/5/24 22:06
My wife and I (ages 63 and 66) will be travelling from Osaka to Tokyo by train, departing early in the morning of October 27 and arriving in Tokyo by the end of the day on October 31.
In previous trips to Japan (this will be our 4th) we visited Himeji, Kyoto, Nara, Takayama, Shirakawago and Mt Koya, and will not visit those wonderful places this time.
For guidance, we would like to include in the itinerary: a) Spending some time walking the Nakasendo trail, or part of it and b) Visiting fall leaves sightseeing spots.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Two thoughts:

You could have a night or two on Lake Biwa, (leaving the Shinkansen at Maibara) and enjoy the castle (Biwako) and maybe go to Mt Hiei for a day and visit Enryakuji.

You could have a night or two in Nagoya or nearby where you will be within striking distance of the Nakasendo.

Enjoy your trip to Japan.
