Japanese school address verification 2019/6/1 01:48
Hello,

When we strolled in Nara park, then a group of kids did a basic english language interview with us and asked us that we could send them a letter from our home. However, Google Maps could not find that address. Please clarify, are there any typos on the address they gave us.

Kounan Daiichi Elementary School
1728-1, Fukawa, Kounan-Cho
Koka, Shiga, 520-3322
Japan

When using the Google Maps i could not find any elementary schools with similar name in Koka.

Lauri

The address is mostly correct,
but the name of this district is now Kōnanchō Fukawa (#).

Google Maps shows this elementary school as Shogakko in Japanese.
"Shogakko" (with two "o" pronounced long) means elementary school.

Google Maps
: Map around
1728-1 Kōnanchō Fukawa, Kōka City, Shiga Prefecture, 520-3322 Japan
https://www.google.co.jp/maps/place/520-3322+ꌧbsb쒬[PVQW|P/@34.9294058,136.1701917,19z?hl=en

Japanese long-pronounced "o" is indicated in various ways
: "ō" (= "o" and a macron), "ou", simply "o", etc.

(#) This district seems to have been Fukawa of Kōnan Town [Kōnanchō]
before Kōka City was established (on October 1 in 2004)
through the merger of five Towns;
since then this district is Kōnanchō Fukawa.
Such changes in the place names (due to a merger of municipalities)
occurred here and there in Japan in recent two decades.

My direct link to Google Maps was not properly produced.
Please use the indirect link by LikeBike.

So, in other words, Lauri's address was correct, and the postmen would have delivered her letter with no problem, but it's just that Google may not respond to the various correct ways of spelling Japanese names and addresses in English alphabet.

Well, actually the 7-digit postal code 520-3322 is enough to identify the district Kōnanchō Fukawa.

You can locate the address on Google Maps by searching with the country name (Japan), the postal code (520-3322) and the block number (1728-1)
: Japan, 520-3322, 1728-1.
