I am going to be in Japan for 13 days and want to buy the 14 day JR East rail pass (Nagano). I have been told that you can't buy the pass if you are going to be in Japan for less than the days that the pass is valid (which is 14 days). Is this right? Thanks Anthony

Yes it's nonsense and besides only valid for any five days out of the 14 days.
