Shinkasen From Tokyo to Hakodate 2019/6/4 21:07
Hi there,

visiting Hokkaido in October 2019.

I am getting confused over some simple information and looking for some verification.

Start of my trip I would like to take the Shinkasen from Tokyo to Hakodate. When looking at the routes on Hyperdia it says there is a direct route (no-chnages) from Tokyo to Shin-hakodate using Hayabusa 11.

I am getting confused as i have tried to book the train in advance but the JR sites for east or north dont seem to have this route available can you book in advance?. The furtherest north I have seen from Tokyo is to Aomori, which is where Tohoku switches to Hokkaido line.

Do i just find out on the day when in Tokyo station when trying to buy a ticket to Shin-Hakodate or it it easier to book 2 tickets?

The portion from Aomori to Hakodate is owned by JR Hokkaido. Perhaps that is why you cannot book the entirety of the trip from the other JR site, the JR East site. They only own the portion from Tokyo to Aomori.

The JR East reservation site started handling reservations for JR Hokkaido services over a year ago.

I donft know about online reservation as I never used it. However you can buy the ticket at many other JR stations before you depart. So unless you are going to travel immediately after arrival in Japan to Shin Hakodate you could buy the ticket some days earlier.

Enjoy your trip to Japan!

Thanks for the replies.

My Japanese int strong and got registered. I will try and book it a month or 2 before my journey.

I did see this; http://www.jreasthokkaido.com/easthokkaido/e/

Im assuming there will be no issues using this pass to get on a unreserved car for Hayabusa?

thanks,

1. Reservations open one month before departure.

2. There are no non-reserved seats on Hayabusa services.

As far as I've read from comments here asking about reservations, I think they only take reservations a month before the day. Don't be alarmed if it doesn't accept your reservation 2 months out.

Tickets only go on sale from 10 a.m. one month before the service operates. You are way too early.
