Teppanyaki restaurants 2019/6/5 02:23
Hi Everyone!

We are going to Japan on our honeymoon later this year and it will be my husband's birthday whilst we are in Tokyo.
As a birthday present, I was hoping to take him to a teppanyaki restaurant for a meal to try some kobe or wagyu beef as he is a big steak lover!!
Looking online all the places I have seen so far seem to be really expensive, (over £100pp) & I dont think my budget will stretch that far unfortunately!
Is anyone able to recommend any teppanyaki restaurants in Tokyo within the £50pp price range? (Not sure it would be possible on the budget end but preferably with a nice view if at all possible?!)

Thanks,

Rachel

Is it possible?

Absolutely.

With Kobe beef with high quality??

Absolutely not...

Teppanyaki restaurants with a view tend to be used for celebrations and business entertainment, so the higher prices are part of the package.

On the other hand, seven thousand yen will get you some very luxurious lunches at non-teppanyaki restaurants in Tokyo, so you might want to look at lunch menus. Most restaurants are much cheaper for lunch compared to dinner, and most people are less likely to order a lot of expensive wine at lunchtime.

A lot of wagyu can be a bit hard to take anyway because it is so rich. If your accomodation for that night isnt locked in, consider a ryokan for the night outside of Tokyo and get the kaiseke. Places like Bessho Onsen for example have ryokans for around 15000JPY per person and the food is spectacular, usually with a bit of wagyu in the mix.

Thanks Unami Dearest!
Lunch may be the best option. (We have already booked a ryokan near Mt Fuji for the last night of our honeymoon, so we will get to experience that later in the trip)
Are there any restaurants you can recommend that do a good lunch time menu at all?

Thanks,
Rachel

There must be thousands of choices for lunch (Tokyo has over 100,000 restaurants), but here are a few that I like:

For beef, the sukiyaki lunch for Y5400 at beef specialist Banyou in Nishi-Shinjuku is quite nice: https://bento.com/rev/1021.html

Teppanyaki with a view at Tennoz on Tennoz Isle - They have a steak lunch for around Y5000 and an A4 wagyu prix-fixe menu for around Y7000 at lunchtime. Probably you'd have to add on tax and maybe service charge, so check the prices before you book: https://tabelog.com/tokyo/A1314/A131404/13009401/dtlmenu/lunch/

Unagi eel in a traditional setting at Kandagawa Honten in Akihabara, with lunch and dinner menus for around Y5000: https://bento.com/rev/2645.html

Tofuya Ukai has a fantastic Japanese garden setting, and offers tofu-centered kaiseki menus from Y6000 at lunchtime (weekdays): https://bento.com/rev/3085.html

Some pleasant dinnertime options within your budget:
Washoku En izakaya in Shiodome: https://bento.com/rev/2516.html
Agaru Sagaru Kyoto-style creative kaiseki in Harajuku: https://bento.com/rev/3207.html
Kushiro Hokkaido seafood overlooking Tokyo Station: https://bento.com/rev/4173.html

Lazy Pious has nailed it IMHO.
Pick a region where they do beef as a speciality (which, actually, includes loads of places - even though you only tend to hear of places like Kobe), and book a decent ryokan where a small amount of beef (and, as UD says above, thatfs all you need) comes as part of a totally awesome kaiseki meal.
You also get a great accommodation experience, and onsen!
SO much better and more memorable than just a meal, and surprisingly good value when you factor in what you get for your money.

Awesome recommendation. I'm looking for a good Teppanyaki Resto. I'll be staying in Chiba this July.

OP might not be aware that yakiniku (aka Korean BBQ) is very different from teppanyaki, even though they both use beef.
