Snow Resorts/Villages near Osaka

Hello, I'm planning a trip to Osaka in late December this year. I'm thinking of visiting a snow resort or village near Osaka on Dec. 28 or 29.
- Would anyone know of a good one if I'm going with kids and we mostly just want to play in snow? I've found Biwako Valley and Hakodateyama Ski Resort, are they any good?
- Also, I see that there are ropeways and lifts in those resorts, do we have to go on those to reach the area where we can play in snow?
