Hiroshima to Imabari City

Hi there,
I'm planning to do the Shimanami Kaido during my visit at Hiroshima prefecture. My preference is to finish at Onomichi, and my last stop before the Shimanami Kaido is Hiroshima city. Therefore I'm looking for the best (and perhaps cheaper) way to get to Imabari from Hiroshima.
Any ideas? I heard there's a bus on this route but I couldn't find any information (at least in English).

I just did the route. When I arrived at Imabari - I took the ferry to one of the inland islands closer to Onimichi (Sashima Island where I spent the night) and took the bus/train combo from there for Hiroshima (more particulary for Hiroshima Airport). I had to it but could not figure out a direct way from Imabari to Hiroshima, which did not require me to go in the direction of Onimichi once again.
