Road trip from Nagoya to Kanazawa

Is it safe to drive from Nagoya to Kanazawa via Gifu prefecture in Dec - Jan time? Does it snow at these places during Dec-Jan time? We are planning to road trip by car to these places in Dec 19 - Jan 20. Thank you

Hi, I havent driven but I have gone by train and bus around these areas in late December. It snows in part, quite heavily in some areas. Shirakawago for example will have heavy snow by christmas. Takayama would generally have snow after christmas. Kanazawa is snowy and slushy by christmas/new year. Plenty of people still drive, though I wouldnt as I havent driven in snow and public transport is usually fine.

Snow tyres or chains would be required if conditions are icy or snow. If you are used to driving with snow/ice, then it would be ok.
