Access to Koyasan by train is it easy?

I am going to Japan January and February 2020, I am interested in going to Koyasan by train. Can someone give me some information on how easy it is to get there and is the train line open during these months. Will be travelling from Osaka or Kyoto to Koyasan. Would like to stay in a temple up on the mountain. Thanks
