Driving in Fukuoka winter

Planning a short trip to Fukuoka end Jan/early Feb. Is it ok to drive as we can see more places...Thanks for any advice

Where in Fukuoka do you want to visit?

If it's the city - then public transport is fastest.

Kyushu does not have the strongest fast public transport in Japan, but Fukuoka is reasonably well served by public transport for Kyushu.

We need to know more before making a comment on if it's better to hire a car.

I'm going to make the assumption that you're concerned about whether there will be snow? (So you can ignore my comment if that isn't the case)

Compared to other places in Japan such as Hokkaido, the Tohoku Region and central regions which experiences heavy snowfall. The winters in Kyushu are quite mild and rarely will it go below freezing. So unless you're really unfortunate I would say that you shouldn't worry too much about adverse driving conditions.

It does get snowy and icy in the central mountainous regions of Kyushu, and up the top of Yakashima Island. But none of those are near Fukuoka City or Fukuoka Prefecture. If you head into Oita Prefecture near Yufuin or Yufu, then you may encounter some of those things.

There are actually a few ski slopes in Kyushu, so there must get enough snow, just not Chubu, Tohoku or Hokkaido levels of snow.

Thank you so much! Yes I was intending to drive out of Fukuoka City to Yufuin. I wanted to know if driving will be diffilcult if it snows. You have answered my question and more.

If you do encounter snow or ice. If wont be daily falls. And roads for example with a few hours of daylight could be free of snow or ice by lunchtime. Or mostly gone.
