G Braque coffee shop in Beppu. Still There? 2019/8/22 04:15
I have many fond memories of Japan while assigned to Yokota AB outside of Tokyo from 1967 to 1970. I took a vacation and went south on my motorcycle, a Kawasaki 650cc W1SS. I ended up in Beppu where I discovered the coffee shop "G Braque" owned by two delightful young women who served me kombu cha with colored rice sprinkled on top. "OISHI!" as you say. They gave me the nickname of "Kaminari Boysan" because I rode that motorcycle. Their shop was located near the covered shopping center in the town. The two (sisters?) said the shop had been a post-WW2 American officers club! I would like to thank them for the several delightful evenings I spent there sipping kombu cha and talking with them.
