Which JR passes to pick for our trip? 2019/8/22 20:34
Hello guys. We will be having a 10-day Japan trip soon and I am confused about these JR Passes and the different JR Passes such as JR East Pass and JR Kansai Pass. Can anyone please guide me on which passes to choose for maximum money savings? Below are the trips we plan to go:
1. Narita Airport - Ueno Station (does the JR Pass apply here?)
2. Nikko Tobu Station and Nikko Kinugawaonsen Station
3. Fuji and Hakone
4. Kyoto
5. Osaka and Himeji

Many thanks in advance!

Impossible to answer with info provided.

Are you flying in and out of Tokyo?

How many days spent at each location?

As mentioned, you need to give more info. With that said, there is sometimes more than one way to get to the same place. For Narita-Ueno, if you are referring to the Keisei trains, you cannot use the JR passes for them. You could though take the N'Ex to Tokyo and then a short JR train ride to Ueno.
Same thing for Tobu - Tobu is not JR.
Why you're mentioning the JR East Pass in the first place is bewildering. Unless you're going farther in like the Tohoku Region, you should be looking at the Tokyo Wide Pass.
Or a full 7-day JR Pass might make sense for some of what you list, if you are returning to Tokyo.

I apologize for the lack of information guys.

1. Narita - Ueno Station (need 1 way ticket)
2. Nikko - need return tickets as we plan to stay for 2 days
3. Hakone and Fuji - also need return tickets, staying for 2 days
4. Osaka - one way ticket from Tokyo, staying for 4 days
5. Kyoto - need return tickets from Osaka, 1 day tour only
6. Himeji -need return tickets from Osaka, 1 day tour only
7. Osaka - Namba station to Osaka Kansai Airport, one way ticket as this is our port of exit (are there JR lines here too?)

Look at one of the Tobu/Nikko passes otherwise single tickets. Whether the Hakone Free Pass is worth it is debatable.

As above, So form of Tobu Nikko pass. See Tobu railway website.

Fuji Hakone pass for you Hakone and Kawaguchiko travels. Just the Odawara version, as you don't need to return back to Tokyo.

Single ticket for your Odawara to Osaka shinkansen leg.

IC card for all other travels.
