Online reservations for JR East

I plan to do online reservation for Tokyo to Aomori. I must collect my ticket by 9pm a day before my travel. Can I collect my ticket aday before and activate my JR pass a day before? Meaning I arrive on the 10th October collect my ticket and activate JR pass for 11th October?
