Tabelog usually lists whether a particular restaurant allows smoking or not. You can also search based on that criterion, at least in Japanese.

More restaurant still (until April next year) allow or have section for smoking. It is more challenging to find a non-smoking restaurant as of now.

Kinen Style might be helpful for finding non-smoking restaurants, but it's not very useful for finding smoking restaurants.

Does this mean there is some legislation in process that will finally ban smoking in restaurants and bars in Japan? (Sorry I donft follow Japan news, but that would be great)

Yes, next year smoking will be banned in many more restaurants than now, but there will also be lots exemptions, e.g. small restaurants, bars, etc. And I believe the Tokyo laws will be stricter than the national laws. The non-smoking rules will definitely apply to large restaurants, so it's an overall improvement for the health of restaurant workers.

@3sen Japanese government "owns" Japan Tobacco Wrong. It had been owned by the government until 1985, but not anymore.
