I know that smoking outside is banned in some parts of Tokyo.
What about Shizuoka? Are there any cities in Shizuoka that ban smoking in public spaces?

Shown in red are the places where smoking is prohibited in Shizuoka. http://www.city.shizuoka.jp/912_000003.htmlBut smokers typically ask for "smoking area" and people will show you. Use your forefinger and middle finger to gesture holding an invisible cigarette near your mouth when asking.
