Better translation for this sentence? 2019/9/9 15:18
やつはどうらや登山道関係なしに現れるようだ。

-> Seems like it might appear in places that are not hiking trails.

I can't think of a better one. Any suggestions? XP

I might say:
- It seems to appear anywhere, regardless of whether it is on a hiking trail or not.

This “… kankei nashi ni” suggests “regardless of whether…” “irrelevant whether…”
From the context you’d know what “it” – “yatsu” suggests some kind of a living thing – so you might want to put it in.

Like AK said, the meaning of the sentence is hard to grasp without context (i.e. the sentences that came before it in the conversation/discussion) since やつ could be referring to any living thing.

As for 登山道関係なしに現れる
the なし is connected to 登山道
so rather than 「appear in places that are not hiking trails」 a better translation would be
「appear regardless of whether or not there is a hiking trail」
personally, I'd translate
「やつはどうらや登山道関係なしに現れるようだ。」
as
「It seems to show up both on hiking trails and off them」
or
「It seems to show up in places regardless of whether or not there's a hiking trail nearby」
