Kumano Kodo: Japanese Encephalitis Vaccine? 2019/9/12 07:26
Me and my girlfriend are visiting Japan this October. The vast majority of our trip will be in urban areas. Towards the end of October we will be hiking on the Kumano Kodo for around 5 days.

If it wasn't for the hike, I realise we are not at high enough risk to warrant a Japanese encephalitis vaccination, however I am not sure whether the Kumano Kodo is in a high risk area at this time of year. Can anyone advise?

Not at risk. Go to Asia or an area with wild boar in Okinawa or mainland Asia - hardly anyone gets encephalitis actually in Japan (1 in 10 million - roughly - actually lower than that).
