Day trips from Takayama in November

We will be in Takayama from the 25th to 29th November this year. We have visited before during the Spring Festival and are returning to see the autumn colours. We have previously explored the town itself and visited Shirakawago. We are looking for a day tour for 3 active seniors to explore some of the natural wonders of the area. Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks.

I think you will be a bit late for autumn colours at that time. They tend to peak in the first week or so in Takayama. If you are after a rural area with colour that time of year you might do better in the Izu peninsula.

Thanks - we have already booked our stay in Takayama - we are arriving in Japan and starting our trip in Fukuoka so will have opportunities to see the colours in other places. The day trip we are looking for is a chance to maybe get into the mountains or somewhere else scenic to explore

The season might (should - based on forecasts) be late this year. If you are in Takayama, why not enjoy the area and some of the non-touristy parts of the town?

I also recommend Okuhida Onsenkyo.
However the maximum temperature around there on your tour dates is about 5��.
Please be prepared for the cold weather.

We did spend some of our time during our last visit walking to the outskirts and catching local buses - just thought a day exploring somewhere in the mountains could be interesting

both places are accessible with Nohi buses and they go through Hirayu (or at least the one to Shinhotaka does), so you can make stop there too.

I'm pretty sure Kamikochi is closed to visitors then.

It officially closes on 11/15 this year. I have read about some expensive snow shoeing tours of it in the Winter, but I am not sure if your dates are too early for those to have started.

Have you been to Hida no Sato village?
