Please suggest if I can use the the foll pass and if internal transfers are covered with the pass. 3 days Tokyo JR Wide pass. 10000 yen 1. Tokyo Nikko Tokyo 2 Tokyo Kawaguchiko .. five lakes... overnight 3. Kawaguchiko. Tokyo
5 days Takayama Horkuri pass 15000 yen Buy a one way tkt from Tokyo to Kanazawa approx 800 yen overnight in Kanazawa 1. Kanazawa Shirakawago Takayama includes Nohi bus 2. Takayama Nagoya Takayama 3. Takayama Kyoto via kanazawa 4. Kyoto 5. Kyoto - shin Osaka
The total for both passes is almost the same as JR pass. Please help me decide if the 7 days JR pass or the 2 regional passes total of 8 days is better.
Thanks n regards

Tokyo to Kanazawa will not be 800 yen. It will be much more.

Hi!
The Passes are all really different and cover different things. I am pretty sure you need to pay additional with a nationwide JR Pass for trips to Kawaguchiko since some of the track is a private line and it won't cover any buses in the Takayama area. However, taking the train from Tokyo to Toyama (where the Hokuriku Pass starts) is going to run you close to 13,000 yen. So you would be looking at 10,000 yen+13,000 yen+15,000 yen)
Personally, I would probably just take the bus to Kawaguchiko and use Tobu when going to Nikko and not even deal with the 10,000 yen Tokyo wide pass. If you use Tobu you could even spend the night in Nikko instead of having to go back on the same day because of the 3 day Tokyo Wide Pass.
Good luck!

5 days Takayama Horkuri pass 15000 yen Buy a one way tkt from Tokyo to Kanazawa approx 800 yen overnight in Kanazawa 1. Kanazawa Shirakawago Takayama includes Nohi bus 2. Takayama Nagoya Takayama 3. Takayama Kyoto via kanazawa 4. Kyoto 5. Kyoto - shin Osaka
This part to me makes no sense. Maybe (I haven't checked) it is cheaper than individual tickets, but you are already on Day 1 in Kanazawa, then on day 2 you go to Nagoya, and instead of continuing from Nagoya to Kyoto you go back to Takayama? just to go again through Kanazawa to Kyoto???? This all for saving (maybe) a few bucks? Once you are in Nagoya, you are about 30 min away by Shinkansen from Kyoto, not 2 days!
So a logical itinerary (if you want to see Nagoya) would be: Kanazawa - Shirakawago - Takayama - Nagoya - Kyoto - Osaka
Enjoy planning your trip to Japan!
