Does Yudanaka have snow in December? 2019/10/5 18:49
My family and I will be spending Christmas in Japan, with us is a 1 year old child and sime of teens who are so excited and wishes to see snow for the first time.
We plan to stay in Yudanaka to see the old town, onsen and see snow.. Is it worth visiting Yudanaka? Will there be snow in Yudanaka area during December or do we need to go to higher place just to see snow?
Are there any recommendations we can go to experience snow and direction how to get there by public transportation?
We have been on the Takayama and Shirakawago before.

Thank you.

It depends on the year. In some years there is. In some years there isn't. It is about 50-50.

Hi!

There should definitely be snow in Shiga Kogen though which is a short bus trip from Yudanaka. It's a popular ski resort area and usually opens for skiing in early December, with one of the earliest openings in Japan for skiing.

They offer lots of different snow activities and are one of the largest ski areas in Japan.

Good luck!

Even if snow is not on the ground at Yudanaka (I would have thought "probably") there are other locations around Nagano that could make a good day trip to places with snow. Late December is ski season and a popular destination from Tokyo at the end of the year.
