Deposit foreign currency at an Japan 7-11 ATM 2019/10/9 19:29
I have some extra cash I brought and decided i do not want to travel with it. Can I deposit my dollar at an 711 atm and have it back in my bank account?

Foreign cards are accepted but foreign money you need to bring to a bank and exchange to Japanese yen.
You can not put just dollar inside the ATM

No you cant. I had a similar situation a couple of weeks ago & ended up changing it at an SMBC bank. https://www.smbctb.co.jp/en/gaika_ryougae/ I noticed later that their rate at the airport was exactly the same as in their exchange desks in Osaka.

Oops. Sorry rereading I see your money is still in Dollars & you just want to deposit. I can't answer that, but I would assume that it will be much easier to travel home with the cash. Serves me right for posting first thing in the morning before I have had coffee.
