Internship to study in Japan? 2019/10/25 04:01
Ifm going to be 16 years old next year. I would like to know if therefs any way for me to be an intern in japan for the summer.

Particularly, Ifm hoping to study at a school with manga/art/writing related courses. I live in the U.S. currently and have no problem getting a passport to Japan.

Is it possible and if so, do you know any schools that could offer an internship like this? Anything would help, thank you!

Passport is not even your concern but you should be searching what you want.

If you want to study in Japan you should find a school to sponsor you.
Without sponsor it will be difficult to enter Japan for Study.

Internship is not popular in Japan and even if there is a company, than what would be the main reason to choose you?

It would be better to consider your approach to enter scholarship.

If you want to do a manga course for max 3 months. You could do so on a tourist visa. As US national you can get up to 90 days.

No paid work allowed.

If you want longer, youfll need a proper student visa.

have no problem getting a passport to Japan.
that is the least concern of your concerns.

Internship is normally refer to on the work experience/ job training at company/industry.
And you being 16 next year, Japan labor laws age restriction apply.

Instead, you should be looking at is High School Exchange/Homestay Program.

Internship is pretty common, but it's mostly for university students with clear future plans and a suitable major in the company like computer science and marketing. No internship for a just-want-to-live-in-Japan person.
Internship is not to let you study in Japan. It's part of hiring process for the company (there are document selections and interviews even for internship) and to experience the job and see how the company and job are for the intern. What can you do for the company?

Communication in Japanese companies are held in Japanese. Can you speak Japanese fluently? They won't hire an interpreter for an internship student. Even if you are an adult employee, they wouldn't.

If you really want to study in Japan, an exchange program would be the easiest. It should be short-term like a few months. And unless you are at the same level as native students in Japanese, you will end up with experiencing the atmosphere of Japanese high school rather than studying because all the classes are taught in Japanese obviously.
Still, it's good for young students to experience it. Ask your school if they have a sister school to exchange students in Japan.
