And your interests are..........?
How much time are you thinking of? A few hours, an overnight...?
Some would mention the Wasabi Farm close by.

Have you considered the Tateyama Alpine Route?

Not the best time of year to see it, but it can still be nice.

Hi!

If you're planning to take the the train from Matsumoto to Nagano to Toyama, you can consider Nagano. It has Zenkoji Temple. It also has a special snack food of Oyaki and apples should be in season.

Good luck!

Definitely, Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is best fit for you.

In addition to the two options mentioned above, I think you could have a lot of fun taking the bus to Takayama first thing in the morning and then spending the day there and riding the train to Toyama in the evening.

If you do the Alpine route as suggested by others, make sure to check the schedule. There is a different schedule for November with reduced hours. Also dress for winter weather given the high altitude. (Possible snow and zero degrees C)

Also make sure it is within your budget. The Alpine Route with the special option ticket is around 10,000 yen.

If you have a JR Pass, going from Matsumoto to Nagano to Toyama would all be covered outside of any local buses or buses to Togakushi you took.

If you go to Takayama the bus to Takayama is additional I think about 3000 yen and the train between Takayama and Toyama is covered. Just be careful there are only 8 trains that do the whole route a day, so make sure you don't miss one. I personally think the Hida between Takayama and Toyama is a little more scenic than Nagoya to Takayama, it just runs a lot less often.

Thank you all.

With the Alpine route - starting from Okizawa, what will be the best way to purchase tickets for 14 November travel please?
