I m planning to Drive from Nikko to Karuizawa end of December. Is it safe and easy to drive along the Japan Romantic Road in winter? Will I be driving along the mountain area or highway and will there be snowing? Thank you.

Hi! Some of the romantic road is closed. https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e7450.htmlsee specifically route 120 between Lake Chuzenji and Fukiware Falls. I would imagine that a road going in the mountains of Gunma-ken is likely to have snow in the Winter. Good luck!
