Karuizawa snow in early Feb 2020?

We are a family of 4 living in HK. My kids have not seen snow before or experienced below-zero temperatures, so we were thinking of taking them on a 2 day trip from Tokyo to Karuizawa. Will there be snow in early Feb 2020? Also, will any of the tourist attractions be closed at that time? Any tips appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have been to Karuizawa 3 or 4 times now but I havent been at that time of year. Snow is almost certain in early February, in fact it sometimes snows heavily into April. My understanding is that Karuizawa is becoming more lively in winter.

I also remember seeing that somewhere in Karuizawa offered ice skating when I was looking up Winter activities in Nagano Prefecture. If you have an actual JR Pass or JR Nagano-Niigata Pass, Shiga Kogen outside of Nagano is a huge ski area with natural snow and some children's play areas. If you're just using the Tokyo Wide, have you also thought about Gala Yuzawa since they are a famous ski resort.

I would think most tourist sights are open, I noticed in mid February the hotel rates i Karuizawa were quite good. I thought about staying there one night.

That would be the ice rink at Hoshino Onsen, Kera-ike I think it's called.

I was looking up Winter activities in Nagano because my child misses snow so was interested in what we could do on our upcoming trip. :D
