Need Re-entry permit?

I have a Highly skilled prof Visa for 5 years.

I will go out of Japan and come back within 2 years

Do I need to take the re-entry permit before leaving Japan?

I heard re-entry permit not needed if you come back within 1 year.

My understanding is that if you plan on leaving Japan for more than one year then you need to apply for a reentry permit at your closest immigration office.

So I do need to apply for the Re-entry permit at nearest immigration center.

Rather I just declare my intention to come back shortly on the de-embark. /departure card at the Aiport. That should be enough, right?

Is it 2 months or 2 years? If you will leave Japan for only 2 months, then just filling out the card at the airport is enough. If you plan to be gone for 2 years you need to apply for a special reentry permit from immigration.

It is the other way round.
For less than one year, you need Special Reentry Permitwhich is a form before immigration counter at the airport. It is free.

Anything more than one year, you will need to apply for Re-entry Permit at immigration bureau office, which going to cost you. Come in either single (3000yen) or multiple (4000yen) entry permit.

Ah yes! I answered your question on the assumption you were leaving for 2 years ! XD

All you need to do is fill in the embark card and tick the box that you will return within one year.

This is done after security where they scan your hand baggage etc, there will be cards available. Fill it out before you go to the immigration/passport check.

They will stamp your passport with when you left and then staple the other half of the embark/disembark card inside your passport.

The disembark card needs to be filled in for when you come back, leave it stapled inside your passport, they will take it out when you come back.

I know you got a lot of responses, but I just left Japan and came back recently for a couple of weeks. If you're leaving for 2 months, you will be fine. When you get your disembarkment card at the airport, it asks you if you intend to come back to Japan. You can leave up to 1 year, or else you'd have to file for a new visa if it were over a year or a special reason saying you will be out of Japan for over a year.

For 2 months, you will be fine. I had also checked online on the official immigration website and it says the same thing.
