Heading to Japan in February going to Matsumoto and Ainokura is it snowing heavily this year?

No, so far it has not snowed a lot in these places this winter. Matsumoto has seen virtually no snow (and the snow that fell today is likely to quickly be washed away by rain). And even the Shirakawago/Gokayama area hasn't seen much snow. The amount of snow that has fallen so far is record-breakingly small.
Long-term forecasts predict the weather to remain above-average warm, but they can be inaccurate. Or a single huge snow storm could change the situation. But for now it looks like there won't be much snow in Japan this winter.

Thank you very much for your response... Saves me a trip out to Ainokura this time. A bit of a bummer though, was there in summer 2 years ago and it was beautiful...
