Tohoku late April and Tokyo beginning May 2020/2/14 22:21
Hi all
i'm planning my trip to japan, and i would like to spend from 20/4 (early morning) till 5/5.
I was thinking to spend some days until 1-2/5 in tohoku, then the remaining days in tokyo and surroundings.

What is the itinerary you suggest to fit the Sakura calendar and a JR east optimization?

Thanks!

I would like to mix Sakura spots, cities, nature and onsens

Thanks for your help.

In late April you are likely to encounter sakura in the northern Tohoku region. The current forecast is here:

Thanks
my concern was more about the fact that this year the sakura seems to arrive later than usual, reason why i would like to do not spend time in places i should visit mainly for sakura, when it is already off

According to the latest forecast below the season is pretty gnormalh, perhaps a few days earlier than usual rather than late. Condition may change as time goes by and the forecast will be updated (next forecast is on Feb 20).

Judging from present situation your time of visit should be good for many places in Tohoku. In average years 2 good cherry blossom sites in Tohoku during late April are Hirosaki and Kakunodate. Accommodation may prove difficult to secure now as both are very popular.

Slightly less visited by foreign visitors is Ashino Park which is located further north of Hirosaki.

It is likely to be earlier than usual. Nevertheless, between April 20 and the end of the month you are virtually guaranteed to encounter cherry blossoms in the Tohoku Region. Another amazing hanami spot is Hakodate's Goryokaku Fort which is usually in bloom around early May. Could be late April in really early years.

You are also likely to encounter tsutsuji (azalea) as well as fuji (wisteria) during that season, especially at places where sakura is ending. So keep that in mind.
