Sendai To Zao Onsen early December 2020

The direct bus from Sendai to Zao Onsen only operates from 21 December to 22 March each year.
I am planning to visit Zao Onsen from Sendai within 2-6 December 2020, any idea how do I get to Zao Onsen during that time?

Yes, the bus from Yamagata Station to Zao Onsen runs year round, I took it in April 2009.
